About Gerwurztraminer

The name Gewürztraminer literally means "Spice Traminer" or "Perfumed Traminer.” This grape variety is a mutation of the Savagnin (not Sauvignon) blanc, also named Traminer in South Tyrol (northern Italy). Gewürztraminer’s homeland lies in the foothills of the Alps. The grape originated in Germany but over several hundred years has completely surrounded the Alps from France to Slovenia. It’s a pink grape, just like Pinot Gris/Grigio, that also grows really well in cooler climates. You can taste a range of styles of this wine, from dry to sweet, right here on Old Mission Peninsula.
